Outcome of my salon entries – month of September 2013

Just received the results of the last outstanding salon for September 2013 – I realised it was not a great month re: salon results. But lets get to the results itself – to summarise:  I’ve entered a total of 6 salons during the month of September 2013 – 1 national salon and 5 international salons. I had another salon with a zero acceptance rate and three salons with only one acceptance each.

Overall outcome: International : 12 acceptances from 52 photos entered = 23% acceptance rate (decreased from 32% last month) with 0 COMs and National: 10/16 = 63% acceptance rate with 2 COMs. Internationally I’ve struggled in Sept but the national salon was an improvement.

Now for the individual salons:

A. International salons:

1. 22nd SCPS International Salon 2013 (SIngapore):

Entered 4 photos in the Nature colour section. A salon with a zero acceptance rate for me – not even Lion drinking side ways 3 receive an acceptance and it has already been accepted in two other salons. Interesting.

3.3rd International Salon of Photography “Novi Sad” 2013 (Serbia):

It is one of those salons that a photographer needs to pay a certain amount for all the sections and not per section. Therefore, I’ve entered 4 images in 4 sections. Only received one acceptance (6% acceptance rate) and it was not in the Wildlife section but in the Landscape section namely Waves over rocks 1.

4. 1st RTANJ Digital Circuit 2013 (Serbia)

This was a 5 salon circuit and I’ve entered 4 photos in the Nature section. Three images received two acceptances each and the fourth image received one acceptance – total of seven acceptances (35% acceptance rate).  I did not expect Leopard yawn 1 to do well in salons but it received two acceptances in this circuit.

5. TPS International Salon of Photographic Art 2013 (Ireland)

My first salon in Ireland – entered 4 photos in the Nature section.  Only received one acceptance – Mating lions 01. One acceptance is definitely better than a zero acceptance rate.

B. National Salons

1. 1st Suikerbosrand National Digitial Salon 2013 (South Africa)

16 images entered into 4 sections. Received 10 acceptance (63% acceptance rate) of which 2 were COMs. Duiker drinking water was one of the acceptances but not a COM (it already received two previous COMs).

 Message to take home:

With an average month when it comes to salon results, I am thinking of this piece of advise I read somewhere: ” I am still learning and will never stop learning because I believe one must create one’s own opportunities to learn photography”. That is why I try to learn something every time I do go out for a shoot. Hopefully my salons results will improve in future.

Until next month – keep on learning and do not stop shooting!!!
