Outcome of my salon entries – month of Aug 2013

Over the past weekend I’ve received the results of the last outstanding salon for Aug 2013 – so now I can post the outcome of the salons I’ve entered during the month of August 2013.

To summarise: A not-so-busy month when it comes to salon entering – I’ve entered only a total of 7 salons during the month of Aug 2013 – 1 national salon and 6 international salons. However, it was not a great month re: my salon outcomes because I had another two salons with a zero acceptance rate. Both these were international salons.

Overall outcome: International : 14 acceptances from 44 photos entered = 32% acceptance rate (improvement from 25% last month) with 0 COMs and National: 14/24 = 56% acceptance rate with 4 COMs. Hopefully I can improve in Sept 2013.

Now for the individual salons:

A. International salons:

1. Indian Golden Digital Circuit (India):

This was a circuit consisting of 3 salons – I’ve entered 4 photos in the Nature colour sections. Seven acceptances giving me a 58% acceptance rate. Hippo aggression 4 received acceptances in all three salons.

Message to take home:

Loking at my last image posted (African mourning doves) I can just think of one aspect that the judges liked about the photo and that is the light. I am sure you would agree with this statement: “You can take a photo any time of the day.” However, you must know what and how you want to capture a scene. You can make an uninteresting scene look interesting if you pay attention to the light. For example, these two African Mourning doves above because I choose only the best times of the day to shoot it.

Until next month’s salon outcome, keep your eye on the light and keep on shooting!!!
