Lioness and cubs drinking water 3 won the Photo of week award in our local paper Bloemnuus of July 19, 2013. The link: http://www.bloemnuus.co.za/
Thanks Bloemnuus for the price and publishing the image in your paper. The photo for those of you who do not follow my blog:
I decided to take a quick final morning drive towards Leeudril and Rooiputs waterhole on the Sunday morning before my 7 hours drive back home after my week-long stay in Feb 2013 in the Kgalagadi. The image was taken at the Leeudril waterhole just after sunrise with only 3 cars following the lioness and her cubs for a few kilometers towards the waterhole – the beauty of the Kgalagadi!!!
Message to take home:
The lioness drank for about 10 minutes giving me enough time to plan some of my shots. As you can see, it is important to place the point of interest in the most satisfying position within the frame to achieve the desired result. In this case it was the lioness coming into the frame with the cubs looking in that direction. It really is that simple; I waited for the right moment with the two cubs side by side and in the same level as the lioness. And then everything from that point forward was my own personal technique. That is why I did not include the entire body of the lioness with the cubs looking in that direction. I want the reader to think what the cubs are looking at – the story telling element of the image.
Until next time, remember to put some personal techniques in your images and keep on shooting!!!
