I’ve just received the results from my last salon entered in February 2013 – so I can now post the outcomes of all my national and international salons entered during the month of February 2013.
To summarise my salon entries for February 2013 – I’ve entered 7 international salons and 1 national salon and I received acceptances in all 8 salons. Here are the results:
1. Rockland International Photography exhibition 2013 (USA):
Entered 4 photos in the Nature sections and received 3 acceptances. I’ve entered Elephant baby framed already in three salons before and the photo received acceptances in all three salons.
Elephant baby framed
Taken in Masathu Nature reserve, Botswana just outside the tented camp next to the waterhole
2. Ridgewood International Exhibition 2013 (USA):
Entered 4 photos in the Nature Open and 4 photos in the Nature Wildlife sections. Received 2 acceptances in Nature Open and 3 acceptances in the Nature Wildlife section. Elephant baby framed was once again accepted and another interesting acceptance was Tracks in the sand 3 (first acceptance after being entered in 3 salons previously).

Taken during our Namibia photographic workshop with Hougaard Malan in Sossousvlei – tracks of a jackal over the dune next to Sossousvlei.
3. 1st Greek Photographic Circuit 2013 (Greece):
My first time entering a salon in Greece and it was a 4 salon circuit. Entered 4 photos in the Nature sections and received 9 acceptances from a possible 16 acceptances. Three elephants in a row received its first 4 acceptances with its first entry in a salon.

4. Bethlehem Salon of photography 2013 (South Africa)
Entered at total of 24 photos in 6 sections. Received 10 acceptances overall. Rock pigeon taking off was one of the acceptances.
Rock pigeon taking off
Taken from the vulture hide, Giants Castle, Drakensberg while waiting for vultures to appear/land (which only happened once during our weekend long stay)
5. The Great British Small Print Circuit 2013 (UK):
My first entry in a print salon – all the previous salons entries were in digital salons. My wife assisted me and she did all the printing of the photos herself – big thanks and well done. It was a 4 salon circuit and I’ve entered 4 photos in the Nature section. Received 12 acceptances from a possible 16 acceptances and Lion drinking water received acceptances in all four salons.
Lion drinking water
Taken next to the 13ht bore hole in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
6. 37th Greater Lynn International color exhibition 2013 (USA):
Entered 4 photos in this salon – no separate sections in this salon and a photographer was only allowed to enter 4 images in this salon. Received 2 acceptances. One accepted image namely Roan antelope backlight was taken in one of my favourite park – Mokala Park near Kimberley in the Northern Cape

7. 1st Bavarian International Circuit 2013 (Germany):
Another 3 salon circuit and I’ve entered 4 photos in the Photo travel and 4 photos in the Nature sections. Received 5 acceptances in the Travel section and 8 acceptances in the Nature section – 13 out of a possible 24 acceptances. Ostrich dusty start received acceptances in all three salons – unexpectedly as I was not really satisfied with my development of the photo. The photo was taken in very difficult circumstances with the late afternoon backlighting, dark subject and high ISO setting in the camera. But I decided to give it a try and I was not sure how the photo will come out. The result was not too bad but it took some time and effort to process. Photo still to be posted in my next Kgalagadi transfrontier Park.
Ostrich dusty start
Taken between Samevloei and Leeudril water hole in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier park
8. Natura Naturans International salon of digital Photography (Serbia):
Entered 4 photos in the Animal and 4 photos in the Nature sections. Received one acceptance each in both sections. King of my Castle received its first acceptance after it was already entered in 3 salons before. I was about to give up on this photo because it looks like it is not a salon photo – I think I’ll put is aside now. Personally I like the photo because of its composition.
King of my Castle
Taken in Mokala National Park near Kimberley.
Summary of the month: not a very successful month when it comes to COM awards but I am more than satisfied with another 100% “strike rate” (acceptances received in all 8 salons).
Message to take home:
Just to repeat myself – if you like your photo, it is success. However, not all your “liked photos” will be/are of a salon standard. One must just accept this fact and move on.
Until next month’s salon results, keep on shooting!!!
